Wooden Window Painting Services in Hertfordshire
Tired, flaking paint is the single biggest reason wooden windows look "ready to replace" — and it's also the easiest problem to fix properly. Our specialist window painting service covers full preparation, repair of any underlying damage, and a factory-quality spray finish that lasts for years.
What's included
- On-site assessment — we identify any rot, splitting timber or putty damage that needs addressing before paint goes on. There's no point painting over hidden problems.
- Strip and prep — failed paint is removed back to a sound surface using heat guns, scrapers and chemical strippers. Bare timber is sanded smooth and primed.
- Repair work — rotten beading, cracked putty and damaged sills are replaced or consolidated with marine-grade epoxy as part of the same visit. See our guide to repairing rotten timber.
- Masking — glass, brickwork and surrounding surfaces are fully masked off (the yellow tape in the photo) so paint goes only where it's meant to. No drips, no overspray, no painted-shut sash locks.
- Premium spray finish — two top coats of high-grade exterior paint applied with our HVLP spray system for a smooth, even, brush-mark-free finish that brush-and-roller can't match.
- Reinstatement — tape removed cleanly, hardware refitted, sashes rebalanced, site cleaned.
Why our painting lasts longer
Most wooden windows that look due for replacement actually just need proper preparation. The reason previous paintwork failed isn't the timber — it's that it was painted over flaky old paint, applied in damp weather, or used cheap trade paint that doesn't flex with seasonal timber movement.
We use the same materials and process that go into our sash window restoration projects:
- Full strip back to sound substrate — never paint-over-paint.
- Premium exterior primers and topcoats designed for timber movement.
- Spray application for an even film build that brush can't match.
- Right weather window — we won't apply paint in damp or sub-10°C conditions, even if the schedule is tight.
The result is paintwork that looks factory-fresh and stays looking that way for 10–15+ years on south-facing exposures, longer on sheltered elevations.
Local to Hertfordshire
We cover all of Hertfordshire, with frequent work in St. Albans, Stevenage, Watford, Hitchin and Hertford. Most painting projects are completed in 2–5 days on site depending on the number of windows and the amount of prep needed.
